Tim Henwood, PhD – Principal
Dr Tim Henwood has a significant background in exercise prescription for the older adult, having first studied the impact of resistance training on wellbeing in commitment to his research honours in 2001. Since then Tim has run a number of important studies investigating the benefits of short- and long-term moderate- and high-intensity exercise training as a countermeasure to functional decline and sarcopenia in independent and dependant older adults. His work has informed a number of successful exercise programmes for both community-dwelling and low-functioning older individuals. Dr Henwood’s work emphasises the importance of a physical activity to prolong health, wellbeing and quality of life in older adults with complex health conditions, and for the nursing and allied health staff who support them. In addition to an extensive national and international conference presentation and lecturing background, Dr Henwood sits on a number of community and government working committees dedicated to improve physical active opportunities for older adults. Dr Henwood also has demonstrated expertise in dementia and interactive technologies to promote functional health and reduce falls in later life.
AgeFIT Solutions
Evidence is strong that healthy lifestyle behaviours, including exercise and physical activity, promote individual wellbeing independent of age, level of disease and disability. Moreover, with resistance training and weight bearing exercise, older adults can significantly reduce their disability trajectory and improve their quality of life. However, exercise remains underutilised in the battle against decreasing health and physical capacity, and in the promotion of workplace productivity. AgeFIT Solutions offers aged care providers an opportunity to improve client and staff health and wellbeing through targeted, evidence-based physical activity and intervention options.
